HAMMER Time (Prof. Tekkaya) October 5, 2023 4-5pm EST via Zoom

All dates for this event occur in the past.

Talk: Prof Tekkaya will explore two topics in incremental forming, a central area of interest for HAMMER.  One will be related incremental tube forming with an emphasis on the control algorithms and the second will consider spinning superposed profile bending process to meet the yield surface to improve stability and reduce bending forces.

Bio: A. Erman Tekkaya is professor at the Technische Universität Dortmund, Germany, and leads the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction (IUL). 2014-2016 Prof. Tekkaya was the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technische Universität Dortmund. He is the founding director of the “Metal Forming Center of Excellence” at the ATILIM University in Ankara/Turkey. After his graduation from the Istanbul Erkek Lisesi (IEL) in Istanbul in 1973, he received his BSc (1979) and MSc (1980) degrees from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara/Turkey in mechanical engineering. He completed his doctoral study with Professor Kurt H. Lange at the University of Stuttgart (1985) and his habilitation (Üniversite Doçenti) inf Mechanical Metallurgy assigned by the TC Üniversiteler Arası Kurul in Ankara (1988). In 2012, he received an honorary doctorate of the Faculty of Engineering of Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg dedicated to his pioneering work in the field of simulation of metal forming processes.

Prof. Tekkaya is the editor-in-chief of Advances in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (Elsevier) and was editor-in-chief of the “Journal of Materials Processing Technology“(Elsevier) 2007-2018 together with Prof. Julian Allwood. He is fellow of the “International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP)” and member of the German “National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech)”, the “Japan Society for Technology of Plasticity (JSTP)”, the “International Impulse Forming Group (I²FG)”and the “International Cold Forging Group (ICFG)”. He was member of the review board for manufacturing technology (FK 401) of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) from 2012 to 2020. He was the chair of the German Association of metal Forming (AGU) from 2018 to 2020.

His research interests are metal forming technology, modeling of manufacturing processes and material characterization. Also engineering education is a prime interest of his. He published several hundreds of journal and conference papers on these topics and co-authored various books such as Formability of Metallic Materials (Springer) and Sheet Metal Forming (ASM).
