Position Description

Trustworthy Cyber-physical defense systems via AI and Shared Autonomy (TCASA) program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro has an opening for a postdoctoral research fellow in the area of image processing, machine vision, robotics and artificial intelligence. The successful candidate will work on machine learning, computer vision, robot modeling and control for complex systems with applications. The research will require the use of sensors like depth cameras, 2D and 3D LiDAR, Inertia Measuring Unit (IMU), among others for experiments for proof-of-concept and technology demonstration. The duration of the position is for a year and may be renewable depending on satisfactory progress and availability of funds. The target starting date is flexible, with the desired start date being in May 2023.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a closely related engineering field. Ideal candidates should have a strong background in the general areas of machine learning, computer vision, robot modeling and control. The candidate must have strong coding experience in Python, C++ and MATLAB and excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills. Candidates with a strong analytical background and internship experience in artificial intelligence are preferred.

Preferred skills/qualifications include the following:

•           Strong background in robot dynamics, control theory, and estimation

•           Research experience in developing safe control methods for real-time systems

•           Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.

•           Firm mathematical foundations in any one of the following: control/machine vision,

•           Solid machine learning programming skills;

•           Strong programming experience in at least one of the following is essential: Python, C++, MATLAB.

•           Very good proficiency in written and spoken English

•           High motivation, self-initiative, as well as strong passion and commitment to research;

•           Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and international team with both senior and junior people

Description of Duties:

•           Coordinate and conduct research on integration of Machine Learning and data-inspired methods with modeling, optimization and control theory (including problems of state and parameter estimation), with application to autonomous, connected and automated vehicles.

•           Support the management of large research projects with Federal Agencies.

•           Participate to the mentoring of graduate students with TCASA-affiliated Faculty.

•           Prepare papers, technical reports and presentations for sponsors, conferences and journals.

•           Assist in identifying, writing, and preparing proposals to pursue new funding opportunities.
